ein maikäfer saß mit einem mädchen auf der wiese. sie kannten sich lange und waren gute freunde. der maikäfer sagte: "ich muss jetzt abschied nehmen." daraufhin sagte das mädchen: "aber wo willst du denn hin?" da spielte der maikäfer ein lied. nachdem das lied zu ende war, sagte das mädchen traurig: "aber du erkältest dich bestimmt, wenn der winter kommt." und der maikäfer spielte ein zweites, ebenso ernstes lied. nachdem das lied zu ende war, sagte das mädchen: "aber wenn du weit weg bist, wer spielt dann für mich musik, wenn ich traurig bin?" da spielte der maikäfer ein drittes lied. das mädchen fing an, bitter zu weinen, und auch er konnte seine tränen nicht mehr zurückhalten. er gab ihr einen letzten kuss und flog los, in richtung des großen landes in dem die birken wachsen.
